Unlike most Liberal Studies Programs, in which students travel through in a cohort, this one offers students the opportunity to create an original course of study and to sample the offerings of the various doctoral and certificate programs.

A major factor in the success of the MALS Program is the unique consortial nature of the Graduate Center’s doctoral faculty.  Faculty members who staff the “core” courses include members of the faculty of CUNY colleges and scholars appointed to the Ph.D. Programs at the Graduate School.

In addition to the distinguished and diverse faculty and the many centers and institutes housed at the Graduate Center, who offer a range of cultural programs, students in the program have at their disposal the rich resources of New York City, including such nearby institutions as the New York Public Library, the Morgan Library, and other museums and galleries.
